Heavy, wet snow on a roof is a real structural load, and ice dams at the eaves push meltwater back under the shingles where it finds its way into the ceiling below. Both are far cheaper to prevent than repair.

Roof work in winter is genuinely hazardous and requires suitable equipment. Most clearing is done from the ground with a roof rake wherever that is possible.

Good to know — Water stains on an upstairs ceiling, or icicles forming in a line along the gutter, usually mean an ice dam is already there. Mention it when booking — it changes the urgency and the approach.
